The owners manual says this requires oddball batteries which I don't have to test it with. When I purchased it, it did not have any batteries stored in but there does look to be signs that were left at some point and leaked the little slide tray. There is also a tape currently in the reel to recorder itself. Then there is a snap down connector similar to for 9 volt battery that connects the tray itself.

There are two tubes that hold the batteries and then those go into a holder slides in out of battery compartment. As shown, it comes in the original box, but box shows wear. For that reason, this is officially sold parts or restoration purposes only.
