Wow flutter. As we state above, this unit was known to be easy to work on and parts are available. Equalization nab or jibs. Total harmonic distortion.
This can be used for parts as well. Frequency response 30hz to 25 khz the face plate, knobs and buttons are in excellent shape. No dust cover or remote. This item is being sold as is.
Heads 1x playback, 1x record, 1x erase. It had all the basics needed for fine sound from a 4 track open reel tape deck. The technical features include track system 4 track, 2 channel, stereo mono system.
Sony's excellent ferret heads rarely wear out. Signal to noise ratio 61db. Belts are still obtainable and the deck itself is easy to work on. Important to note there are no tapes, only one reel, no packaging materials or instruction manual, etc.
Tape speeds, 3/3 4, dimensions weight x 19 x 41. It comes with one reel. Reel size up to 7 inches the outer casing is in good condition with a few scratches, nicks, and a minor chip on a corner. As you can tell buy the photos, it has a very clean looking face.
This model has tons of features including large sized VI meters, high performance ferret heads, tape bias and equalization switches, tape tension regulator to reduce wow flutter, 4 digit tape counter, head phone jack, 2 position mic input, mic line mixing with dual concentric controls, 3 position bias and equalization controls, all mode auto stop, locking pause control, dynamically balanced oversize flywheel, scrape flutter filter, ac servo tape drive and supply reel servo back tension, switchable tape source monitoring, patented direct coupled head playback, contoured playback head for smooth low frequency response. Folks, this Sony TC399 3 head stereo tape deck was released in the fall of 1978 and was very popular, as Sony sold a lot of these units because of its handsome but compact look.
It is our opinion only that this could be fixed. It does turn on, the red light recording indicators work, however, the reels do not spin.
