This particular model is a variant of the popular PMW-788 series, equipped with TimeCode (TC) functionality and supporting the 788 Mini-SDI tape format.
One common issue that users might encounter with this device is related to the 788 Mini-SDI tapes. To address this concern, the Sony PMW-788C TC 788-4 comes with a solution that ensures the seamless operation of the recorder. The device features an advanced error correction system that automatically detects and corrects errors on the tape, significantly reducing the risk of data loss or recording interruptions.
This error correction system works by continuously monitoring the data being recorded and comparing it with a checksum. If an error is detected, the system automatically corrects it, ensuring that the recorded data remains intact and of high quality. This feature is particularly useful when working with 788 Mini-SDI tapes, which may sometimes exhibit minor issues due to their compact size and the high data density they can store.
In addition to the error correction system, the Sony PMW-788C TC 788-4 also offers a range of other features that make it an ideal choice for professional video production. These include 4K and HD recording capabilities, simultaneous recording to multiple codecs, and timecode synchronization with other devices.
In summary, the Sony PMW-788C TC 788-4 Mini-SDI Tape Recorder, despite the occasional issues with 788 Mini-SDI tapes, is a reliable and versatile recording solution. Its advanced error correction system effectively addresses the problem, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted recording of high-quality video data. The cabinet is in good cond for the year and the tape heads are very good. I used it very little. Your buying as is described.
It records in both directions and takes and 15 reels. This item weighs 60 lbs. Its been a long time since I used it.
There are a couple photos where the record lights and meter lights are on. I think it may need a cleaning or lubricating if they do that. It turns on all the lights work, the record and playback work but the rollers drop out or they wont pull in all forward and rewind works but that's the only problem.
This machine has been in my house almost 30 years. Heres the problem.
