The BR-1200 Reel Symphonic Electra Tape Recorder is a reel-to-reel audio recorder known for its high-fidelity sound quality and vintage appeal. Here are some pros and cons to consider before making a purchase:

Pros:

1. High-fidelity sound quality: The BR-1200 is capable of capturing and reproducing audio with exceptional clarity, making it an attractive choice for audio enthusiasts and professionals.

2. Vintage aesthetic: The vintage design of the recorder can add a unique touch to any studio or home setup.

3. Durable construction: The recorder is built to last, with a sturdy metal chassis and high-quality components.

4. Adjustable settings: The BR-1200 offers a range of adjustable settings, allowing users to tailor the sound to their preferences.

5. Analog recording: Some users prefer the warmer, more natural sound of analog tape over digital recording formats.

Cons:

1. Expensive: The BR-1200 is a high-end piece of equipment, and its price point may be prohibitive for some buyers.

2. Maintenance required: Reel-to-reel tape recorders require regular maintenance to ensure optimal performance, including cleaning and replacing components.

3. Limited compatibility: The recorder may not be compatible with certain types of tape or modern audio equipment.

4. Bulky and heavy: The BR-1200 is a large and heavy device, which may make it difficult to transport or find a suitable space for setup.

5. Noise: The recorder can produce noise during operation, which may be a concern for those seeking a quiet recording environment.

Conclusion:

The BR-1200 Reel Symphonic Electra Tape Recorder is a high-quality, high-fidelity tape recorder that offers a unique, vintage aesthetic. However, its expensive price point, maintenance requirements, and limited compatibility may make it a less practical choice for some buyers. If you are an audiophile or professional who values the unique sound of analog tape and is willing to invest in proper maintenance, the BR-1200 could be a worthwhile addition to your collection. For casual users or those seeking a more modern, user-friendly solution, there may be more suitable options available.

Details:

The recorder had been sitting covered in an unopened basement for several years, and didn't have a speck of dust on it when I received. This recorder belonged to my uncle, who was a bit of gear head and audiophile back in the day. The microphone that originally came with this recorder is unfortunately not still set. This vintage tape recorder from the late 50s early 60s is in excellent working condition.

I've spent the last few months digitizing all of old family recording for posterity, but really do not have space or need to keep this piece equipment around any longer. The original operating instructions are included, along with some blank tapes. All of the cabinet, lid, and latches are intact, there is very little wear showing on exterior. It is tube-based, and contains 1 12ax7, 12au7, 6sn7, el84, gy3gt.

The built-in speakers consist of a 6 x 9 woofer, and tweeter.
