Or better yet, have a plan to address it. My theory might be right, or it might be wrong. Over time i've been puzzled by how many of these Teac and ta scam remote controls are missing the strain relief that belongs where the cable exits the aluminum chassis. I was made aware of it the first time I escalated a thief.

I expect to find something torn loose inside, a direct result of the missing strain relief. After a portion of it breaks off and disappears, the rest of it is loose in the opening and will eventually fall out.

If you watch the listings on these remote controls rc 120, rc 140, rc 70, rc 71, etc you won't need to look very hard to spot one or more with the strain relief either missing, damaged, or perhaps not photographed clearly enough so you can determine its condition. Similar to the low fuel indicator on your cars' dashboard, these comments are your warning. An example of that construction is how pliable the wiring cable is, in spite of its age.

The strain relief on a remote control I recently listed looked fine, but it fell into pieces when I removed it for replacement. I see that same engineering approach in this remote control and would expect that the new owner will get many years of trouble free use from it. I have another Teac rc 120 remote control on hand that arrived missing the strain relief.

A note to thieves the verbiage contained in this listing is my own work, not something I lifted from an old Teac ad. I spend a lot of time working on Teac quad reel to reel tape decks and have come to appreciate how well engineered and overbuilt they are in many ways.

A few weeks ago I observed a brand new, in the box year old Teac remote being offered for sale on. That would explain the high percentage of remotes that are missing this part, and also explain the remotes that are missing just a portion of this part. Sure, everything so far, until suddenly, and with warning, everything isn OK. The high resolution photos in this listing tell the cosmetic story and iota very good story.

Shipping is USPS priority mail to the lower 48. And realize that I didn know is no longer an excuse to dismiss your actions. All of these remotes belonged to someone when the strain relief went missing. A couple of the tape transport buttons don't work.

My theory is that the plastic gets brittle after many years. I spend a lot of time creating it to make sure that what I say is as accurate and complete as possible. In addition to testing it with a model x 7 I have also tested it with a Teac a i've seen enough of them that I think it fair to assume that 30 of the remotes that I haven seen have the same problem.

The fact remains that a very high percentage of these strain reliefs fail, and that is what needs to be addressed regardless of the cause. I've also seen remotes with only a portion of the strain relief missing. Long live analog. Lots of things can happen when the strain relief let's go, and none of them are good.

Or the unsupported cable will tug at solder connections inside the remote and pull something loose. This is not an infrequent problem. The rc 90 was designed to be used with the non auto reverse x series Teac decks x 7, x 10, x 7 x 1000m and the ta scam 122 cassette deck.

I ve been known to have more than a couple of these Teac ta scam remote controls on hand see photo and speak from a knowledgeable position on this subject. I'll point out here that recently I took in three Teac remotes for repair and resale, all three of which had an issue with the strain relief. As some will state, it certainly may be the case, even with the strain relief missing, that the remote being offered still works fine.

In use, all of the buttons operate smoothly, effectively and flawlessly, as designed and execute the function they were designed for. Up for sale is this Teac rc 90 remote control unit. Cosmetically this item is very clean and shows very minimal light scratches. See the strain relief below.

This problem really does show up very, very frequently.

I'm convinced that sooner or later an original 30 year old strain relief will fail you. This problem is now pervasive with vintage Teac remote controls. Not that 20 would cover that cost.

And it doesn't really matter either way. The cord is fully intact with no cuts, crack, etc. The strain relief I repair these Teac remotes replacing switches, capacitors, buttons or whatever is required to get them working properly.

I've made a fuss in previous listings for Teac remotes over the strain relief that should be in place on these Teac remotes several model's to protect the wiring cable as it exits the aluminum case. 2 because I now think I understand the story behind the missing strain reliefs, i've stocked up on them and i'm now replacing the strain relief on each remote control I sell regardless of its apparent condition. This item has demonstrated that it is functionally compatible with the Teac rc 70 and the ta scam rc 71 remote control units. A small impact, or a tug on the cable, can cause the strain relief to break.

Ignoring all of this is like ignoring the light on your caddish board warning you that you re just about out of fuel. It performs flawlessly with the x 7 and I found it to be fully functional with the a 3440, with the exception of the record mute function which this remote supports and the a 3440 does not. That strain relief is there because Teac engineers determined that it needs to be there. Both the record and the pause leds illuminate as appropriate.

Or worse, short something out and cook some components in the remote control, your tape deck, or both. I've included in this listing photos of what Teac ta scam remotes with problematic strain reliefs can look like. But with this item missing the aluminum case will eventually chafe through the cable jacket and some insulation and cause the remote control to stop working properly. And learn what price you might pay for stealing text.

Here what I think is going on these remotes are 30 years old and so is the plastic strain relief. These words are not in the public domain, and are not free for the taking.

That could be you if you purchase the wrong remote control. This very common problem with the strain relief on these vintage Teac remote controls is becoming more and more pervasive as time goes on.
