Otherwise, you may want to consider more affordable and modern options.

Details:

After a portion of it breaks off and disappears, the rest of it is loose in the opening and will quickly fall out. I replaced that strain relief with the correct plastic item and this remote should be good to go for another several years. A small impact, or a tug on the cable, can cause the strain relief to break.

The strain relief I repair these teac remotes replacing switches, capacitors, buttons or whatever is required to get them working again. Specifics of those issues are noted in photo 12 of this listing. But with this item missing the aluminum case will eventually chafe through some insulation and cause the remote control to stop working, or worse, short something out and cook some components in either the remote, the tape deck, or both. This rc 140 is designed to operate with auto reverse decks and the rc 120 is not.

I'll point out here that in the last month i've taken in three teac remotes for repair and resale, all of which had an issue with the strain relief. I spend a lot of time working on teac reel to reel tape decks and have come to appreciate how well engineered and overbuilt they are in many ways. The fact remains that a very high percentage of these items fail, and that is what needs to be addressed regardless of the cause. That strain relief is there because it needs to be there.

The lettering is in pristine condition as the photos show. For you collectors the mid 1970's price tag is still in place on the Box. Both the record and the pause leds illuminate as appropriate.

The cord is fully intact with no cuts, crack, etc. It's pretty normal for several of the rc 120's to be available for sale. See the strain relief below.

Teac rc 140 remote control unit for teac a 4300sx, a 63 a 2300sr, a 3300sr and probably other teac auto reverse decks of similar vintage. That would explain the high percentage of remotes that are missing this part, and also explain the remotes that are missing just a portion of this part.

These remotes are 30 years old and so is the plastic strain relief. And it certainly may be the case, even with the strain relief missing, either the entire item or just a piece broken off, that the remote they re selling still works fine. It comes in the original teac Box which is in fair condition.

Ignoring all of this is like ignoring the light on your caddish board warning you that you re just about out of fuel. All of the buttons now operate smoothly and operate as designed. Part of the strain relief had broken off leading to the problems noted below.

That could be you. Or the unsupported cable will tug at solder connections inside the remote and pull something loose. These comments are your warning. And a couple of the tape transport buttons don't work.

Over time i've been puzzled by how many of these teac remote controls are missing the strain relief that belongs where the cable exits the aluminum chassis. In that case I would ship USPS flat rate priority mail.

I'll bet I find something torn loose inside, a direct result of the missing strain relief. I have an rc 120 on hand right now that is missing the strain relief. This item will operate with assorted teac auto reverse tape decks. Sure, everything so far, until suddenly, and with warning, everything isn OK.

If you watch the listings on these teac and ta scam remote controls rc 120, rc 140, rc 70, rc 71, etc you won't need to look very hard to spot one or more with the strain relief either missing or damaged. This remote control is not the rc 120 and is not comparable with decks designed to use the rc 120. I've seen this problem on both well worn remote controls as well as remotes that are new, still in the Box, and have spent the last 30 years in a closet somewhere.

Up for sale is this teac rc 140 remote control unit. I've also seen remotes with only a portion of the strain relief missing see photo which has led me to begin to understand what going on. This remote is in very good condition cosmetically with no unsightly gouges or scratches in the aluminum case.

You won't be. My theory might be right, or it might be wrong, and it doesn't really matter either way.

2 because I now think I understand the story behind the missing strain reliefs, i've stocked up on them and i'm now replacing the strain relief on each remote control I sell regardless of its apparent condition. While the rc 120 and the rc 140 look almost identical they just aren t. The rc 140 is becoming increasingly rare and shows up on only occasionally.

I see that same engineering approach in this remote control and would expect that the new owner will get many years of trouble free use from it. I've gone through this remote to clean it and to verify all operations.

All of these remotes belonged to someone when the strain relief went missing. So this is an age issue, not a use issue. My theory is that the plastic gets brittle after many years. I've included in this listing photos of what a problematic strain relief looks like.

With the work and testing that i've performed on this remote i'm comfortable offering this item as fully tested and guaranteed to perform as designed.
