Note read this: this deck has been serviced and is functional as a playback unit described above. Vintage Sony 262d stereo tape deck - to play tapes good working deck, in surprisingly great internal shape. The wood en cabinet was split along one edge, which I fixed and glued. Verified tape path alignment and did a speed check - all OK.
Includes power cord and 1 rca stereo cable made in japan. All the rubber is very good. Cannot even see it. There is no grill cover for the open bottom - see pics.
No guarantee it will work with an Sara unit. This is a head-only deck, requiring an external head amplifier. I also added speed labels because the original plate was missing. Replaced the tape counter belt only in system.
Cleaned and lubed or oiled all the bearings, pivots sliders. Service: someone had this before and kinda hacked it. The cabinet is in OK condition with some chips and scrapes, but not bad looking.
This unit is designed for horizontal operation only. The original speed knob was cracked and missing its decoration, so I created a different. Tape reel shown in pics not included. I had to replace the power transformer wrong one and install motor start phase cap missing.
More cassette decks, some reel to units, and lots stuff. Replaced defective power switch with what I had on hand. Cosmetics: the front panel looks good, with some light marks from reel edges. All fully serviced and shipped ready for work.
But the phono method worked fine enough to enjoy my tapes. It was tested to play only using my receiver phono input.
In the process, I corrected power wiring of course. Oiled the motor bearings. 16x16x15 box at 22 lbs.
Stay tuned for many more functionally restored vintage electronics. It played nicely, and I could verify the head alignment. The recording capability requires a Sony Sara unit, so was not tested.
The unit has very low head wear. The rubber is in soft, excellent condition.
