Details:
I usually buy about every reel to reel I find at estate sales or offers. My guess is that with the microphone, the record will work as well as the rest of the player does.
I usually have some of these so I can test the ones I buy. As far as I could tell, all the lights burn on the front where the control knobs are. Probably explains why it's in such good condition.
Not sure what the differences are in all the 1500 series. I wan't sure if it would still record from the built in speaker but obviously, it won't.
It does indicate that the record button was on by the blank space I tried to record, then it starts to play whats been recorded on the tape. These things are getting harder and harder to find. I still buy them if they don't think they are worth a mint like most people do.
I might find one every 3 months now. I've included the tape and take up reel just because it's the one I used to test the player. Comes with a very nice case cover and instruction book. The only thing I couldn't fully test is recording.
There was some writing on the player, it was identified as being owned and used by eats university. I didn't find another 1520 listed or sold on. I hear preaching, charlie pride and some gospel music on the first few minutes I listen to so I could test it. I don't see any cracks or repairs in the casing anywhere.
They had taped it so I removed it to be sure the inner wires were not damaged, quiet common on these type end plugs. This is a home recorded tape that sounds like it's been recorded over a few times. Be sure to read the instructions when you test it. As you can see, I have it loaded with a tape and the player seems to work perfect.
I can push the record button, talk for a few seconds, rewind it but no sound. All that's missing is without the microphone, the sound has no way to be recorded, the motions of recording seem to work as they should. Used to I would find one at about every estate sale. This is the first Wollensak i've bought.
The instructions say to plug in the microphone, which I don't have before recording. Very nice player, I can see why collectors buy these. For more vintage items.
The cord has a bare place where the protective rubber has pulled away from the end plug.
