Details:
The unit plays and records sounds except for right front channel which is weak. There are some scratches on the control decorative plate. This recorder looks great except for scratches on the control mechanism. I found that if turn the play lever hard right, or left, it goes into with no problem.
It is very well built and finished. All the channels playback mic, except, as mentioned right front is weak. The cabinet is in perfect shape, except for a couple of nicks. However the brakes on both directions allow reels to spill tape, so these need adjusting.
As with all our vintage sales, this Toshiba is being sold. This recorder has both rca and din plugs on the back.
This unit originally sold for 500 and came out in the 1970's. Due to its age the recorder needs serious adjusting and maintenance. The turn to right is a bit finicky, however turning left goes into play okay. Tape and source switches needed to be exercised provide a clean sound, so those contacts need cleaning.
So issues:control lever needs contact cleaning to clear up the hesitation engage. However with a mic plugged into each channel, sound is heard in source on all channels. The control is pushed down and turned left or right for rewind fast forward.
Please understand if you purchase this recorder, are acknowledging the problems listed above and realize there may be more areas that require attention, cleaning, or repair. The control of tape mechanism uses a single handle. Rewind and fast forward dump tape which is a braking problem. Its a good project candidate.
The brakes will need adjusting. It turns left or right to go into forward play. The unit is solid and very clean.
In record the meters go to mid position and don't fluctuate with sound input. All four channels of the tape playback work, but right front channel is weak the meters are not responding in.
I may not be doing something correctly in record. It also has independent 4 channel bias controls on the back. The Toshiba take up reel is included.
This sale is for the Toshiba pt channel quadraphonic reel to tape recorder. The tape counter is not working and probably just needs a new belt. Unfortunately, I do not have the time, nor repair resources to tackle problems with this 40 year old tape recorder.
