I did not try to clean, I did plug the tape player in and tried the different function and they seem to work fine, the pinch roller, the take up reel and supply reel turned, I did not put a tape reel on or did not hook up to a receiver and test, no further testing was attempted.

This reel to reel tape player appears to be in good to very good condition.

For an item damaged in shipping, do not throw out the original box or packing materials, they may need to be inspected.
