Solenoid controlled mechanism, this deck works as a 4 channel 4 track machine, or a stereo 4 track machine with auto reverse, depending on what position the 2/4 channel switch is on. We bought this off the original owner who had purchased it in the 70s for use in his home studio, when everyone was trying to be a rock star.

All functions on this deck work absolutely flawlessly, including the individual track playback while recording another. All lights and meters work, and all channels have had very minor bias tweaking to equal out the recording levels. Difficult to see, and most definitely can be repaired, but i'd rate the whole deck a out of 10.

The glass heads provide exceptional frequency response, confirmed via our Mel calibration tape and Camacho tape deck analyzer. Short of a head and tape transport cleaning, this deck needed absolutely nothing.

All controls and switches are clean, no noise in them whatsoever. As usual, sold with no reserve.

Well, as with many rock bands, this one didn't last too long, and while the musicians may still be jamming in Joe's garage, this deck has sat idle for about 25 years in the road case. The frequency response is flat to 20khz at UPS, beyond that at 15 UPS, and about 18khz at now, since this deck comes with a road case with casters on it, the deck and case weigh about 100 lbs, and are too heavy for USPS or a courier. The wood case is virtually flawless, zero chipping, and only two very minor scratches on the bottom right side panel.

The weak points of this deck are the makeup tension lever, which have been known to loosen and break, this one is solid as a rock.
