The GX635 and 636 were very similar, all having a symmetrical 6-head design Glass Crystal which permitted both playback recording in directions. Line and mic mixing was also possible with separate microphone line-in level controls. The GX-635D was the first unit in series 1979 and very likely Akai recorder with IC logic controlled tape function controls. Head Configuration: Stereo.

Auto Reverse?: Yes. They are hardly visible when viewing the recorder with this cover on it. Country Of Manufacture: Japan. Now you don't ever have to go back over the recorder from your easy listening position after initial mounting of tape for playback or recording.

Akai also marketed a GX-635DB with Dolby B which did not have the timer switch. Complete use and installation instructions for this remote control is included.

Multiple functions like record, play, rewind and others can be done directly from the remote control. See the last two pictures of this listing showing these rare hard to find accessories. Please also note two very rare and hard to find accessories are included with this particular recorder. The direct drive, AC servo capstan motor is frequency-controlled.

Equalization: NAB. Head Composition: Ferret/Glass. Of particular interest to some buyers might be the wireless custom made remote control for this recorder. A near perfect plastic cover in excellent condition for the recorder with no cracks or broken pieces.

It had a pitch control function, recording mute and programmable record timer. Both model's were also available with a flat black finish but sold in smaller quantities as silver was still holding greater popularity for audio equipment of the age. Only some minor scuffs can be seen in a small number of places.
