Buying 21 tapes of the 5-3 6700 BASF reel can be an interesting prospect for audio enthusiasts or archivists, but it's important to consider both the pros and cons before making a decision.
Pros:1. Quality: BASF was a renowned manufacturer of audiotape, and the 6700 series is known for its high-quality sound reproduction. These tapes are likely to provide a good listening experience.
2. Durability: BASF tapes were designed to last longer than many other brands, thanks to their oxide coating and binder. This means they may be less prone to degradation over time.
3. Availability: Given that these are 21 tapes, you're likely to have a good supply for various uses, such as recording, archiving, or restoration projects.
Cons:1. Age: As these tapes are likely to be old, they may have degraded to some extent, even if they were stored properly. This could affect their sound quality.
2. Compatibility: Older tapes may not be compatible with all modern playback devices due to differences in tape formulation or recording standards.
3. Cost: While the cost per tape might seem reasonable, the overall cost for 21 tapes could be high, especially if they need to be professionally restored or if you need additional equipment to play them.
Conclusion:If you're looking for high-quality audio for archiving or restoration purposes and are willing to invest in potentially expensive equipment and/or restoration costs, buying 21 tapes of the 5-3 6700 BASF reel could be a worthwhile investment. However, if you're looking for tapes for everyday use or for a modern playback system, you might want to consider more modern options.
Recommendation: If you decide to proceed, I'd recommend researching the condition of the tapes before purchasing and budgeting for any necessary equipment and restoration costs. It could also be beneficial to test play a few tapes first to assess their quality.
Made in germany. I don't believe the tape is made any more so increasingly rare to find.
Lot of 21 used Basf reel to reel tapes in soft cardboard cases. Tapes have been used though looks to be in excellent condition. There are markings track listings in each box that are mostly pop and classical. Some have green leader tape and the rest is red leader tape.
