Akai Professional ATE-7 Box Tape A Vintage Tape Echo for Modern Music Production

The Akai Professional ATE-7 Box Tape is a stunning reissue of a classic analog tape echo effect unit, hailing from the golden age of tape-based sound processing. This vintage-style tape delay offers an authentic, warm, and organic sound that has captivated musicians and producers for decades.

The ATE-7 Box Tape is meticulously designed to capture the essence of Akai's original AX-73 tape delay, providing an impressive 250ms of delay time. Its compact, rugged enclosure is reminiscent of the iconic Akai AX series, making it a perfect addition to any modern studio or live setup.

The ATE-7 Box Tape features a unique tape-based delay mechanism, providing rich, complex, and Musique Concr te-inspired sound textures. With three playback heads, a single record head, and a built-in spring reverb, this unit offers a wide range of creative possibilities for shaping and manipulating audio signals.

In addition to its tape-based delay, the ATE-7 Box Tape features an input level control, a delay time control, a mix control, a repeat control, and a dedicated spring reverb control. These intuitively laid-out controls, combined with high-quality analog circuitry, allow for effortless tweaking and fine-tuning of your sounds.

The Akai Professional ATE-7 Box Tape is a must-have for any electronic music producer, audio engineer, or sound designer in search of that elusive, authentic tape echo sound. Its vintage aesthetics, combined with its versatile and expressive sound palette, make it a truly unique and invaluable tool in the modern music production landscape.

Experience the sonic charm of the past with the Akai Professional ATE-7 Box Tape where vintage meets modern in a perfect fusion of sound and style.

The Akai EGX-7 Box Tape is a vintage analog tape echo unit, highly sought after for its unique sound and character. Here are some pros and cons to consider before making a purchase:

Pros:

1. Unique, warm, and organic sound: The analog tape echo provides a distinct, warm, and organic sound that digital delay units can't replicate. It's particularly popular in music genres like rock, funk, and disco.

2. Tape saturation: The analog tape provides subtle saturation and distortion, which can add a pleasing texture and warmth to your audio.

3. Tape age and wow/flutter: The sound of the EGX-7 can vary based on the age and condition of the tape, as well as the tape speed variations (wow and flutter). This can result in a more organic and unpredictable sound.

4. Vintage aesthetics: The unit has a retro look that some musicians and audio enthusiasts appreciate.

Cons:

1. Limited controls: Compared to modern digital delay units, the EGX-7 has limited control options, which might limit its versatility.

2. Maintenance: Analog tape echo units require regular maintenance, including replacing the tape and cleaning the heads, which can be time-consuming and costly.

3. Durability: As a vintage unit, the EGX-7 may have worn-out components, and repairs can be difficult to find or expensive.

4. Size and weight: The EGX-7 is a larger and heavier unit than many modern delay pedals, which can make it less practical for live performance or studio environments with limited space.

Conclusion:

The Akai EGX-7 Box Tape offers a unique, warm, and organic sound that is highly sought after in certain music genres. However, its limited controls, maintenance requirements, potential durability issues, and size make it less practical for some applications. If you're looking for a versatile and easy-to-use delay unit, a modern digital delay pedal might be a better choice. On the other hand, if you're a fan of the sound of vintage analog tape echo units and are willing to put in the maintenance and invest in the unit, the EGX-7 could be a great addition to your audio arsenal.

Recommendation:

If you're a musician or audio enthusiast who values the unique sound of vintage analog tape echo units, the Akai EGX-7 Box Tape could be a worthwhile investment, given its rarity and popularity. However, be prepared for the maintenance requirements and potential durability issues that come with owning a vintage unit. If you're looking for a more versatile and practical delay solution, you might want to consider a modern digital delay pedal instead.

Details:

Pre erasing makes the reel to reel decks recording job cleaner by eliminating residual information from previous recordings. Priority mail is nice because its fast, insured and track able. There may be something of importance to you that I have overlooked or failed to mention.

There are a few nicks in the power cord see image I have used this unit regularly over the years and it has always worked properly. Please look at all the pictures carefully to determine cosmetic condition I consider my pictures to be part of the.

It is being sold strictly as is due to age considerations, but I will send the described item to you.

This offer is for the eraser with ac power cord, and the original, rather worn box with one flap taped on. The reels of tape shown in photos 9 and 10 are for demonstration purposes only and are not included in this offer.

Nothing else is included in this offer. This is a vintage Akai ate 7 bulk tape eraser made in japan, circa 1960's this item comes from my own collection of vintage audio equipment and accessories where it has been for 20 years. This eraser works with any size reel, but an adapter hub is needed for 10 reels to properly hold them in place.

Nice vintage look and feel, works well, but power indicator does not. I have not investigated why, but the unit is on when the spindle is raised and off when it is lowered. Vintage Akai bulk eraser.

This unit is rather heavy which is reflected in the shipping cost. I have kept this eraser in the box when not in use.

I would have replaced the cord, but have been unable to find another one with the same equipment connector end. This bulk eraser works well, but the indicator lamp does not light when the power switch tape spindle is raised. The bulk eraser is especially nice for removing previous recordings from tapes prior to make new recordings.

This unit has some minor scuffs and scratches from occasional, normal use.
