Do you service other recorders and what cost yes. Plus I am well known master tech for servicing these, repair and restored well over 100's of decks over the years, pretty much every model they made even imports a few time over, plus others.
Replaced most capacitors in playback and record board. Thread blank tape you are going to use. Is this recorder easy to use yes. This deterioration renders the tape unusable.
Out of 10 in good condition. Does have some marks by reel table area.

Selling a great condition Akai gx 286db 3 heads and 3 motors reel to reel tape recorder. Motors runs like new and spin a few time before stopping and runs silent and on speed. It is in full working condition and has been just been serviced also serviced transport, cleaning all old oil and lube. Are blank tapes still being produced, for this recorder yes.
Do I need to buy any nab hub adapter's, or blank take up reel to use 10. What used, or new old stock blank tape brand, or model sure I used that still good some blank tapes up to the mid 70's had a issues with sticky tape syndrome, which is a condition created by the deterioration of the binders in a magnetic tape, which hold the iron oxide magnetizable coating to its plastic carrier. Did also change most the capacitors on the playback and record board, as needed it.
Heads are in good condition.
Transport has been reboil removing all old oil before putting fresh oil to all lever and parts requiring oil. Then you are ready to record. Has dolby nr system. You'd be very hard pressed to find one, if you can even find one that been serviced.
But on the used market, can be found right on, this recorder accept 7 reels. Can this recorder be hook up to a PC to transfer over recorded material to CD, or mp3 yes. I buy open reel to reel decks from previously owners mostly, not just thrift stores, or garage sales like some do can find brand new stock for 1/4 format thru MiG, or Art magnetic 2.
Unit was disassembled and cleaned.
It's your choice. Cosmetically reel to reel deck itself is a 8. Deck was tested with a few reels and works great on both speeds and sound great.
Used exit contact cleaner on switches and jacks, more the a couple of times to make sure corrosion was dissolved, then clean switches very well making sure no residue was left behind, on pots used fade lube and cleaned them so no residue was left behind also. Counter belt was also change I have the equipment and know how necessary to restore these decks plug in rca patch cable from line out of recorder to line input of 1/8 inch jack on back of the computer, sure be located by where you plug you speakers into, usually jack is blue in color Adjusted and demagnetized all heads checked input output after all work was completed and during testing installed new counter belt questions and answers 1.
Adjust record line pot till meter don't over db on VI meters, on peak of music the loudest part. I restore these decks back to original specs, or close to original specs, making sure no issues.
Install new counter belt, as old one was gone, clean pulleys before install new belt. 5 reels for this recorder. Download software to do audio transfer, ether paid, or freeware, you can use program call audacity to do transfer.
All pots and switches work properly and all operate silently and smoothly and all functions work and recording works well too, plus all lights work.
