( Brand: American Concertone ), ( Model: 505-4 ), ( Type: Tape Recorder ), ( Country/region Of Manufacture: Japan )
The heads are in very good condition. This is a 1962 design from the Concertone company, manufactured under license by teach in japan.
I found it best to leave all the way right as doesn't really allow for setting recording levels until transport is in motion. It also includes both capstans and pinch rollers - required to change speeds the correct original reel holders, which still work well, power cord operation service manuals. There were several variants of the 505 and it can get confusing.
Its not, as far I can determine, a teach design, although some of the transport features are quite teach-like and very early aka recall. Shipping quoted is for us lower 48. Changing speed requires the play eq externally, another early design - a slide switch by meters and theres an odd output control pot, to left for source right tape.
As this is a 1962 tube design, i'm not going to work that issue and, in any case, wonderful 55 year old guy needs an owner understands him and his complement of vacuum tubes. Overall this is an outstanding example of very solid design, well made by teach, collectable. This machine is the and plays 2 track 4 stereo records in.
Audio is functional, but not hi-fie. Fast wind in both directions and braking is satisfactory the tape counter, plus its early winding reset works properly. The case, internally and externally is also excellent, with catches, handles hinges in very good shape.
It runs at UPS and on up to 7 inch reels records plays in 4 track format stereo also 2 tapes. A very early design, but always satisfying clunks from the solenoids. Theres some light distortion on replay that I can hear via my bench receiver and speakers. This listing is for an American Concertone model reel to tape recorder.
All results were as expected, just noting the light distortion on replay. Even the little plastic cap that guards record mode button is still present. Operation requires selecting the transport mode and pressing start button. Cosmetically its in superb condition, inside and out.
