For the classical Music lover, these tapes are all exceptionally well cataloged, with multi reel tape lots packed together, and each box is sorted by composer,. Musically speaking, it's more of the same. The other boxes contain 1 box of indexes for the tapes, a number of boxes of 7 reels, as well as assorted tape hubs, a metal plate to play the pancakes on, and splicing tape, etc, etc.
Mahler, Verdi, Strauss, etc. The recordings range from the 1930s to the 1980, the 1930s tapes having been made from records, but there are also a number of radio station master copies that were sent to radio stations for airplay. With a bunch of the index cards etc included with the tapes being in German, either the owner had a bunch of tapes shipped from overseas, or perhaps he spent some time in Europe.
While many of the tapes come with metal reels, there are also a bunch of pancakes in the boxes.
Each box is unique, and mostly cataloged by composer. 5 reel to reel tapes 3 full plastic reels 6 full metal reels 12 full pancakes 1/2 full pancakes most tapes are apex, audiotape and 3m the odd tape. From the box we opened, all cardboard cartons are from very good to mint condition, I would classify most of them as excellent.
Amps included a rare pioneer, and a roughcast matched the b77, along with keg and m k speakers, etc. While there are a few UPS 4 track stereo reels, it appears that the vast majority are 15 UPS.
No surprises in any of the other boxes, just more of the same. Dates of the recordings have ranged so far from 1975 to all tapes appear to be stored in a played condition, tails out. Some tape brands include scotch 150, 250, Agra, Bass, Maxwell Ln, ID, Dix and Dix 1, 3m scotch 206, 207, etc track. The vast majority of the tapes are stored in a played condition, there's maybe 1/2 that appear to have been stored in ff or Re mode, but it could also be the tape that does not lie nice and evenly on the reel.
Each box contains between I suspect that these are going to sound fantastic. Some reels are full, while some have less than a full 7 reel, but more than a 5 one of tape on them. These tape brands and model's are indicative of this collection being accumulated over the course of about 30 or so years. His reel to reel machines included an apex 351, a rev ox b77, and a rev ox a7 along with a Sony Tc 756 and teach a 73 so this was no slouch as far as his equipment went.
Recordings range from full track mono to 1/2 and 1/4 track stereo. Up for sale are a bunch of tapes that came from an estate sale.
All the tapes were stored in a climate controlled environment, and stored vertically.
We did see some notes on the boxes indicating 15 UPS recording. Some recordings span several tapes, some are complete on one tape.
5 or are packed with 7 reel to reel tapes with boxes.
